Supporting your London Scholar
Families play an important role in helping students prepare for London Scholars program. For many, this will be the first time your student embarks on something this significant, and the program team is here to support your family through it.
As your student takes the lead during this academic year, the program can provide parents and guardians some helpful tips outlined in the Supporting Your Scholar guide.
If you’re ever unsure of how to guide your student in seeking support, please also reference the Support Resources at Northeastern University London guide. This guide outlines various support teams and their roles in London, and how your student can be in contact with them directly.
All the details your student needs will be sent by email and available through their Application Status Check portal. Review each message carefully together so nothing gets missed. This website is also a reliable resource for updates as the program approaches.
GDPR and Student Privacy
Important for families
Northeastern University London operates under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which means faculty and staff in London can only share student information with the student directly. This applies regardless of a student’s age. A blanket waiver is not possible, though students can work with faculty or staff on a case-by-case basis if they choose to grant access.
In practice, this means your student will need to engage directly with resources and teams in London when they need support. The Boston-based London Scholars team is not subject to the same restrictions and is available to help families navigate questions before and during the program at [email protected].
Get Started Early with Important Conversations
Before your student departs, start conversations about budgeting, safety, and how you’ll stay in touch while they’re abroad. Practical preparation matters too – cooking, cleaning, and navigating public transit are skills that go a long way in helping students hit the ground running.
We find that families that are aligned on expectations with their student early report feeling most effective in supporting their student during the London Scholars program. This is your student’s experience, and the program team will be with them at every step.
Family Hub
Parents and guardians of current Northeastern students can create a Family Hub account for access to billing, transcripts, news from your student’s college, and more. Visit the Family Hub website to get started.
